Props & Inventions

Forgot to upload my objects / props / whatever. I noticed when I was going through my posts that it didn't seem to exist, so I'm uploading it now. Sorry for the lateness. I have here a variety of objects and a couple of buildings I've detailed as they are major locations for food and basic sundry goods. There's also the P2 (Purse Purse), which is literally just a larger purse for more purses to be stored within, slung over the shoulder in some cases but can be constructed in many different ways. There's also the 'carry-it-all', the segway+shopping cart which is a personal vessel constructed shoddily allowing people to gather shit wherever they want and bring it home with minimal effort. I also thought about the Retarded Rabbit character, who appears on a lot of objects and themes in the neighborhood, a dope-smoking hillbilly cartoon rabbit who is supposed to have a sort of Duckman / Simpsons appeal to the inhabitants.

Main Character Thumbs

Ideally, whatever format the production takes, I'd want this whole hoarders / 'Diogenes' concept to follow several central perspectives... but for the sake of the class I'm focusing on one of course. These sketches feature variations on the 'cat lady', an older woman in the hoarding community. I played with a couple of age types, some old ladies, some cougars and some younger hippieish women. This protagonist is also a mom and widow / ex. Her cat obsession takes on numerous accessory deviation and extremes. Names would be Kitty, Barb, Veronica, similar

The next 15 sketches are of the secondary character, child to the protagonist. I also played with some age ranges here. Some sons and daughters, middle-ageish and teen / tweenish. This secondary / child character would serve as the foil to the protagonist, a deluded observer of reality at least closer than the protagonist's. S/he pays the bills, often ends up feeding excessive animals, brings home food... Plays caretaker to some ridiculous extent for mom.

Environment Sketch & Reference Gathers

This is the Diogenes mall from the perspective of about ground or second floor. I'm trying to capture the essence of super-consumerism and a visual inundation of crap. I think it needs more inane characters and logos strewn about and more stores crammed with shit. I was mostly trying to eke out the basic premise of the mall architecture with this sketch, too.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF DIOGENES

Diogenes is your average suburban neighborhood, save for the population of obsessive compulsive hoarders. Everyone in Diogenes is addicted to the instant gratification that comes of consumership; their homes are uniquely representational of this. Between the flea market and the Diogenes mall, your typical Diogenes citizen has no further needs, aside from maybe a licensed therapist and a wrecking crew. While these people obsessively hoard and collect, they present themselves as normal, hard-working people to their neighbors and friends, even as they have to sleep on a pile of newspapers out back in spite of their nice Colonial homes.
