Ciel Vignette

Underdrawing; going to paint this for next week/the final. There's not a lot going on, but I wanted to show one of the actual homes, especially since you would be spending a lot of time at this particular one.
I also really dislike his pose - hoping to make it look less herpaderpy when I actually paint it :P

Main Character Thumbnails
For main characters, I focused on 'your companion,' - you are a newcomer to Ciel, and you at least for the beginning of the story are this character's responsibility.
The other character is the Ciel's leader - I think he'd be a head philosopher or master of the academies, something like that.

Ciel Environment
This overlooks one of the large archways in the souk. The circular path can be followed all the way down to the souk's entrance, to the mining grounds, or up to the library. There are several paths, and one likely does not go all the way from the bottom to the top of the city, but they all generally spiral around the mountaintop. In the top right will be the conservatories, the highest point of Ciel.
Reference I focused on was Spanish mosques, specifically La Mezquita and Alhambra, and architecture in Dubai. I also was intrigued by Arabian architecture and old villages. I found a city in Iran that is almost entirely built into the side of a mountain; the roads literally are on the roofs of the houses. Because I get lost easily when hopping around on Google, I tried to at least document what my images were of so I could remember if I wanted to look up more reference later.

Ciel
Todd Pittman, a man from Cincinnatti, OH, falls asleep behind the wheel on I-71. He wakes in a city he's never seen or heard of before.
The society that inhabits Ciel is based in fantasy, worshipping mathematics as its religion, disinterested in beliefs identified as faith-based. The city is carved out of a mountain's peak, structured to follow the Fibonacci Spiral. Though Pittman has never seen anything like this city and the people who live in it, they have encountered humans before. The people resemble the mythological depictions of angels, perhaps in the same way dolphins and manatees have been mistaken for mermaids. There are other mountaintop cities like this one, but Ciel is the focus of this project.
This design bible will represent Pittman's encounters and observations of Ciel and its people as he tries to learn where he is and how to get home.
